We are all well at present. We received your letter on the 4th and we got the papers about a week ago. We have very wet weather here now I think it will be hard to get the turf dry this year. We have none of them rickled [stacked?] yet but we have them all fitted. We have they [the?] potatoes all moulded [buried?]. We are not doing very much now. [Page 2] Father and Tomy [Tommy?] is in Gortin fair today. They have two of the heifers in it. The [there?] are [sic] great word about the election here now. The [There?] are three men to speak in Gortin to day [today?]. Dr. Thompson, Kenny and plunket these three are standing for our part this time. plunket is a parnellite, they [the?] other two is the same as before. We expect to be fit to put in Thompson. friday is the day of the voting for this part Hamilton Will be speaking in the plum [Plumbridge] tomorrow They [the?] band is going down to meet him. [Page 3] We are out every Friday night. We went over eden hill one night till we went to the butterlop and then down to the mill. last friday night we went up round by Charles McCullaghs [McCulloughs?] and went on down and crossed the foot stick and up this side. We were going to go round Glenroan this friday coming but I think we will wait to see how the voting will go. We are going to Newtown [Newtownstewart?] this Twelfth. I see by your letter you are for taking this Twelfth. When you were here they were [Page 4 ] arguing about druming. [drumming?] Joe Keys is over in america and we had to learn a new one. Alex McKelvey glenroan is learning but he is not very good yet We had sixteen players on last friday. Alex McClelland Will not com to beat the big drum Alex duncan is beating her so that is another player off. We have got a new pair of symbols. [cymbals?] They are talking about getting a new flag but I am not sure whether they will get her or not. Willie Knox is beating the symballs [cymbals?] The cost is 11 shillings The [they?] are the same as the plum [Plumbridge] [Page 5] You wanted to know if we had all the sheep clipped. we have them all clipped only 3 year olds that was lost one of them is the Twin ram you gave to John the other two is [sic] ones we bought they stayed up above McConnell till about a month ago and we cannot get any word of them since. We are feared someone put them out of the way because we pounded once and left in some of glenroan sheep we left in fifty and we never can get any since they are hirding [herding?] them out of the glen [Page 6] We have twenty two lambs this year 14 [ups?] and 8 ewes the [there?] were five of them had no lambs and two of them that let them die. We lost five in winter and spring 4 year olds and one old ewe James Campbell has pound some this year Johny [Johnny?] Elkin had to send his down to douglas and Joe Duncan has sold all his except about twenty he has down at [hileter?] McConnell had to send his all away David Noble has stoped [stopped?] the pass cross the plough. Biddy gillen prossed [brought a legal action against?] him to the [Page 7] last sessions for five pound [sic] damages for stoping [stopping?] the pass Noble was decreed in ten shillings and costs David Noble has appailed [appealed?] it to the assixes [assizes?] so the the [sic] [there?] will be a lot up at the assixes [assizes?]. this time I think the [they?] will commence on the sixteenth John Nicholas ones and Micky an [and?] Miles had a great row one day about a fortnight ago. It was about the lonen [loan?] that goes up past John Nicholas and one of miles sons [bond?] first and then [Page 8] old miles came they gave James Nicholas a brave black arm with a stone and then he lifted one and [he?] gave miles a brave cut on the head. James Nicholas was arrested that night and kept in the barracks until ten o clock the next day and then he got out on bale [bail]. He is summoned to the binch [bench?] and he has sumoned summoned miles so we dont know how it will go to after that he is feared [afraid?] he will go to jail. patrick Nicholas is in scotland he struck John McConnell one time in spring and he was feared [afraid?] he would summons him and then he started Yours Truly William Smyth [Written at top of page 9] We will send you a paper some of these days |
