Transcript | 188 Cherry St. Battle Creek, Mich [Michigan?] March, 31, 1905. Mrs. B. McKenna. Ireland. My Dear Aunt:- You will no doubt be surprised to receive a letter from me, and I hardly know how to start, as I have never hard a letter from you. Well in the first place we are all well, and hope that all our friends in Ireland are well also. Well my dear aunt I promised Fr. [Father?] Brogan I would write to you. I spent three months with him last summer. I went to attend the celebration of his silver jubliee [jubilee?] for on June 7, 1904 he celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of his ordaination [ordination?], and it was a grand sight with as many priests from all over Iowa. There was a solemn high mass and the sermon was preached by Fr. [Father?] Roach of Cascade Iowa. At noon the Ladies of the parish served a very fine banquet, after which there was speaking, and many other sports, and all finished up with a merry dance. Fr. [Father?] Brogan was remembered with many valuable presents, among them were a very fine carriage from his parishioners and a beautiful silver water service and any amount of other beautiful pieces. The people left their work, and came to honor their beloved pastor, whom they all think agreat deal of. I must not forget to tell you about the wedding for on the day of Fr. [Father?] Brogans anniversary he joined in holy wedlock Miss Lizzie Tighe and Mr Thomas Kirk. I suppose you know who they are, and I had the honor of being bridsmaid [bridesmaid?]. Now dear aunt, Papa send his best regards to you all and wishes to be remembered to all of you. He always speakes of home and would be delighted to hear from you. Papa left us a few days ago for the west, he is now 1500 miles from us, and we are very lonesome. my brother is in Idaho with him. Papa is in fine health, I only hope that in a few years he will be able to go back for a visit, when you write let us know about every one, that is if you [Incomplete letter]. |
