Transcript | Saint John 25 February 1868 My very dear Sister, Accept of my thanks for yor very kind note, by last Mail. It gave me great comfort to hear from you again and I do hope that you will write me after as I could not wish a better letter than you can still write. I rejoice to hear of Sister Annes recovery. May the Lord spare her long and bless her abundantly. I had intended writing you at length today but our Communion is next Sabbath and so many interruptions occurred that I could not possibly do it. I [-----?] we had a mutiny of Session tonight and our Sittings continued till a late hour, at a still later hour I scribble these few lines to go by the mail tomorrow morn. [morning?]. We are all in our usual health. You will see in the papers that another of my particular friends Mr. Hen. [Henry?] W.B. [------?] is called home - I had introductions to him from his wife's relatives in [------?] through Mr Andw [Andrew?] Symington when I came to this Province and he always, though from conviction and by profession a Baptist, took a deep interest in me. For many years he visited me on the 1st day of January. His last visit at the beginning of this year was prolonged for perhaps more than an hour and though therein the enjoyment of excellent bodily health his conversation was all of Saints on earth & saints in Heaven. He has now I am sure united in the praises of the upper Sanctuary, whilst his removal after a short illness, from congestion of the Lungs, is greatly regretted in this Community, Many of the very best citizens have been removed by death during the last two years, taken away from the evil to come. If I am spared till another early opportunity I will write you at greater length. Perhaps this would not be sent only that I got today & therefore wish to enclose, Insurance for the February quarter, now due. W.I.B. Hamilton will please acknowledge through you. I heard from Saml [Samuel?] [-lugston?] mind as you write and advised Wm. [William?] [----------?]. He has probably written in person, himself. It appears to me very strange that there should be so much difficulty in getting some and to procure & forward the dividends. If others fail I think William will appoint a Brother of the late Mrs Stavely, Mr. Hind. Should you see Mr [-lugston?] say that I will shortly write to him. This is a note that I do wish you to burn when read. Dearest regards to all Believe me in great haste, My very dear Sister, Your ever Affectionate Brother Alex M. Stavely. |
