Transcript | Linsfort August 31 Dear Ellen you may think it strange I did not write sooner but I have put off from week to week as I expected to have more news of importance as yet I dont know how it will be setlled but Mr Miller has been talking to John he tells him it is best for him to give up the [school?] and he will see what Harvey will do about giving a pension he used to assist him with his Books and now he is not [?] [?] to have [?] I regret very much coming back, there is little change for the better and to think of going into a strange neighbourhood is out of the question, I did not wonder you expected more news but Lizzy seemd [seemed?] so unwilling to answer my note it made me careless about writing. I know they have friends Enough without being bothered with me, She merely told me her Ma was going to Castlerock. I met Mr Sample, the [day?] I come home but he seemd [seemed?] in a great hurry and I did not like to keep him standing on the street Mrs Rabe [Robb?] was quite well she was both glad and sorry to me she is [?] as ever and disapointed [disappointed?] when I left she has two nice little girls and henry is quite a nice boy his mother is a clean smart old woman and cooks nicely but she cant speak english which makes it unpleasant for her Jonny [Johnny?] was returned from a trip to Pheledelphia [Philadelphia?] he was in the store at that time I spent two days in Brooklin [Brooklyn?] with Mrs Brown I always feel at home with her I could not bigin [begin?] to write about the house and fammily [family?] it would take a large sheet. I did not see your Brother Mrs Bond I went one #PAGE 2 evening but it was meeting of Synod and he was there she had a fine boy six weeks old I spent a very pleasant time people said times were very bad for a great many but I found my friends in a very prosperious [prosperous?] way they have five girls at home all schoolteachers one has twelve hundred a year another has 6..40, another & the other have 4 hundred each they own a very handsome house which they bought since I was there you see how they are paid for teaching school in Amerrica [America?], I promised to write to Mrs Rabe [Robb?] if you have her address please send it as I paid no attention to the number she talked much about you and William she felt more at home there than any [where?] else I suppose you had the pleasure of seeing Miss Thompson at Castlerock I heard they were down I need not think of going up at present when I write again I expect to have more news, with kind regards yours truly C.
