Dear Uncle
It is with heart felt
sorrow I write you these few lines to let
you know of my Mothers death. She was
quite smart till the 28th of January past
I think she had a light stroke on that
day, but she soon came all right again
But she complained a good deal about
her head, but on Wednesday morning
the 31st of January she took another so
I went for the doctor he was with her
on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday and
was coming again on Saturday but she
died on Saturday morning at one O clock
she suffered no pain just weaknesss
she was buried Monday 5th inst at 2 O clock
no one has any idea how I miss her for
I am left all alone now and she was
good mother to me and I am sure
I done my duty to her she never knew
what it was to want anything and I
can say conscientiously that I never
gave my mother a cross word in my
life, Uncle no person can form any idea
the state of my mind for the last seven
years I staid [stayed?] with her all the time
Only when I had business away and she
was uneasy when I was away everytime
I left home I was always thinking she
might take another stroke when I was
gone the doctor said she was liable to
take another anytime, but if my mind
was tried then it was nothing to
what it is now, But there is one I look
to for strength to bear my trouble for I
know he will never leave or forsake me
if I put my trust in him. I hardly know
yet what I will do a friend of mine wants
me to go into business with him all the trouble
is I cannot meet him in Capital I have some
money in farmer's notes but I cannot get
it till next fall and I do not like to borrow
I never borrowed one dollar in my life. Mrs
Cransten & Husband were out to the funeral they
are all well. John Knox and Wife are Well &
Mr John Lowrie and family are well and I hope
yourself & family are enjoying the same blessing
I would have wrote sooner but we have an awful
snow storm it was blocked so I could not get out
to post a letter but I will give you all particulars in
next letter please write soon for I am anxious to
hear from you and you are all the one I have to write
to now I remain your affectionate nephew
John Walker
