Transcript | May 1876 Mr. Andrew Lowry, Sr. Argrey Ballindrait Co. Donegal Ireland. Dear Uncle, With pleasure I now take the oppertunity [opportunity?] of sending you a few lines to let you know that we are well, hoping to hear from you all enjoying the same, I have wrote a number of letters to you and have never received of no answer from any of them and I hope if this reaches you will be kind enough to answer it as mother verry [very?] anxious to know you [all are?] we have one of the poorest summers this summer in Canada that has been known in a long time it was so dry that the crops this summer will not pay for harvesting. The farmers around here are busy thrashing their grain and it is the poorest yield for a number of years, fall wheat, averages, between 25 & 30 bushells to 10, acres, or 2(1/2) & 3(1/2) per acre and spring crops is no better. Mother is still doing a little [at?] the weaving yet, but cannot do much as she is alone Fanny has been dead near two years and left two children one boy & a girl Martha is living about fifty five miles from us and has six children and the last letter we had from them they were all well Uncle John Lowrie is [busy?] making cheese this summer he has a cheese factory in [Onedia?] and the last we heard they were all well Mother was over to see her brother Alex Lowrie in Pittsburgh 3 years ago and he is not doing verry [very?] well she says he is given to drink and is not good to the family when in that state Mother talked to him often when she was there but all to no [ ? ] she wishes you would write to him mother says he has a nice family if he would only show them a better example I am at home at present and will be all [?] for work is very scarce this summer and by the apperance [appearance?] of things at present they will be nothing doing this winter. I will now fetch my letter to a close and if you should get this one I will be able to give you all the particulars in the next one. No more at present.
