| Transcript | North Canada Aug 11 91 [1891?] Dear Uncle & Family I now take pleasure in sending you these few lines to let you know that we are all well at present hoping to hear from you all enjoying the same blessing. I think you forgot to write. this is the second since I heard from you. Or if you wrote I never received it. Mother keeps smart Mr & Mrs Cranston were over here for a week they went home last Saturday & mother went with them to Taplytown she will stay till I go after her I think in a weeks time she will be anxious to get home again. Uncle John Lowry had a light stroke of paralysis last week. but verry [very?] light for he is able to be around all the time, he had a stroke 13 years ago which kept him in bed for a long time. I saw him yesterday and he is getting quite smart again he soon will be able for the road again he never misses a day unless he is sick but he is at Our house & sometimes three times in one day. We had a verry [very?] dry Summer here no rain of any account since last spring, Hay Crops was light but most of the farmers has any amount of Old Hay. Fall Wheat is good considering the dry Summer it was all cut & in the Barns in July and this month farmers are buisy [busy?] thrashing their wheat to make room for their spring Crop. Oats, peas, Barley & Spring wheat is near ready for cutting now some are cutting Oats now. Fall Wheat is turning out well, I have heard from several that has thrashed some going as high as 45 Bushel per Acre. Others less some in our neighbourhood having 30 acres of fall wheat having from 900 to 1000 Bus. from machine I think 30 Bus. per Acre will be a good Average it is verry [very?] plump weighing 64 lbs per Bus Spring Crops will be about the same as last season there are some good fields of Oats & peas. Some verry [very?] light But all well headed & I think will turn out well. Root crops in this section is below the Average on Account of dry weather. But I have got good potatoes, I wish they would stop growing if I will be carrying them in my arms like stove wood. We had a splendid Rain last night it rained all night it will help pasture & Root Crops wonderfully. I thank you for your papers I read all of the Assembly news and found it verry [very?] interesting reading & came to the conclusion you had some smart men in your presbytery (as smart as our own) I send you a couple of papers with this letter hoping soon to hear from you all I remain Your Affectionate Nephew Jno [John?] A Walker Canfield P.O [Post Office?] Ont [Ontario?] |
