Transcript | Mr Andrew Lowry, Argrey Bellindrate [Ballindrait?] Strabane Ireland Canfield Dec'r 16th 90 [1890?] Dear Uncle & Aunt I now take pleasure in sending you a few lines to let you know we are all well hoping to hear from you all enjoying the same we are having a splendid winter nice and mild and good sleighing Mother keeps quite smart She is able to be around all the time and do most of her own work she sends her love to you all, Uncle John Lowry is in our house every day himself and the rest of the family are all well i have been verry [very?] Buisy [busy?] this fall and winter attending Auction Sales there are a great many Sales this fall a Sale nearly every day and everything sells high except Horses and they are verry [very?] cheap the reason for Horses being so cheap is they are not used any more in cities the cars are all run by Electricity in stead [instead?] of being drawn by Horses so there is not the demand for Horses and they have Been a great many Raised these last few years they range for a good work Horse from $50.00 to $100.00 and it takes an extra good one to fetch the latter figures - Cattle & sheep sells high cows from $35.00 to $45.00 a head yearlings for $20.00 & over sheep from 8 to 1- [10?] Dollars a head but Hay is verry [very?] cheap it is hard work to get four dollars a ton on a years Credit the Country is over stocked with Hay we had a big crop of Hay last season some farmers having from 75 to 100 tons of it and lots of Hay left over from Last year a great many farmers that have [clover?] hay are thrashing it for the seed [alsike?] [clover?] seed is fetching $10.00 a bushell and it is turning out pretty good some odd ones have from 50 - 75 Bushells [Bushels?] of seed and getting $10.00 a Bushell so it pays them well to thrash it and the Hay for feed is not much the worse for thrashing i received a paper from you a few days ago and #PAGE 2 [I?] send you two papers with this letter hope you will receive them all right - Mr Cranston & family were all well the last we heard from them we are quite a way a part [apart?] so we dont see them verry [very?] often you will please Excuse this writing for i have my thumb tied up from a bad Bruise so it seems quite a job to hold the pen with it, i will now fetch this to a close Wishing you all a Merry Xmas [Christmas?] & Happy New Year and many Returns of the Same is the wishes of John Walker Canfield P.O.
