Transcript | [appended to letter from W. McCleery Ship Huron, New Orleans?] John M Orr Esq Chicago Illinois NEW ORLEANS JAN 5 LA [Louisiana?] [Circular postmark 5 Jan 1848?] My Dear John I received your letter about the 12th Dec and would have written you before but was delaying till I got a letter from home to give you some news but the only news they gave me is that they & all friends were well. they are the worst correspondents I ever knew. I will write you in a week & give you a description of my sail down the Ohio & Mississippi. I am not doing anything yet, the bad news how England has put a stop to trade nearly altogether but I expect before much longer to be dabbling in something. Our Friend Willy looks well & is now chief mate of the Huron. He has given you all the news from home which he got from Eliza Ann. Wishing you dear John Many happy new years I remain your old friend Thos. [Thomas?] Warnock |
