A record of the Watson family as far as
I know

My grandfather's Father was an
English gentleman who came
over from England to Ireland,
but in what year I do not
know.
My grandfather had a Brother
who went into the Army and
distinguished himself and
obtained military honors [honours?]
but that is all I remember
about him, he remained abroad
so that the family lost sight
of him. It is quite likely he
had sisters as well, but I do not
remember hearing anything about
them.
My Grandfather Hugh Watson was
born in County Armagh, Ireland
he was a Wesleyan Methodist, and
I am proud to say a model Christian
in his home as well as business life
He had two sons and four daughters,
the eldest was Jane, who married Mr
Peebles; the next was Robert, who
settled in Lurgan, Ireland. Martha,
sarah Ann, who died in childhood,
and Mary, married in New York.
My father was the youngest; and
was named Wesley after the
Rev John Wesley, who baptised him
My grandfather & grandmother, with
all the family except my Uncle
Robert, came to America between
seventy or eighty years ago.
My grandfather and grandmother
died in New York, and their remains
are in the old St Pauls Church
Yard, as well as my brother
Robert, who died in Childhood.
My own father had two sons
and three daughters; the eldest
Mary Jane, the next John, the
third Sarah Ann the next Robert,
and the youngest Rosetta, who is
still alive, He with all his

family came to Canada some
time after the unhappy war of
1813, it might be about 17 or 18
and settled in Toronto, he being
too staunch a Briton to remain
in "yankee land" He would not
take the oath of allegiance, for
which he lost a most valuable
property, it being confiscated - a
part of the same property my late
cousin William Watson bought from the
government and which his family now own
My uncle Robert Watson died in Lurgan
Ireland. My Aunts Jane & Mary died in
New York, my Aunt Martha died in Canada,
not far from our old house; My father died in
Toronto, as also my Brother John, who lost
his life during the rebellion of 1837;
he was a young man, not married, so
that there is not a Watson belonging to
our family alive in Canada.
The record I have tried to give is solely
from memory, but quite reliable nevertheless.
It will afford me very great pleasure
if it gives you any satisfaction.
And believe me Yours Respectfully
Rosetta Watson Kerr
