Dear Sister

I recieved [received?] your letter
today was more than pleased to hear From
you your news cheers me as it is little
I can give in return. I am well in health
& glad to know you are the Same
I am Surprised to hear the
Colonel spoke of me he has not
Been written to I do not Think
as I did not in writing to [Papa?]
mention any names of places
I want you to go to Mr Stephens
and get me a Church letter he
may not possibly remember me
but refer him to Mr Pound.
Mrs Richmond you know I attended
there nearly constantly I would like to
unite with The Episcopal here and
have seen The Rector his name is
Mr Lemon Mr Stephens may
remember him he was two years in Detroit
& preached a few Sundays
in Pontiac he said I did not need
a letter But I would much
rather you would get me one if
you possibly could without
too much trouble I am pleased
with the opinion Dr. Pepper has
of me I had ans [answered?] their letter
From Miss McCrory she is
entirely reconciled to her lot
I had a letter From Mr Andrews
he is not in quite such a hurray [hurry?]
out as he was at First I wrote Mr Wood
The truth he can like or not I wish
he was out here and liked
it I would give up asylum
life if he wanted me but I
will never ask him to Come
as he might not like it I
had no letter from Willie
in Some time he has been
Sick with Typhoid Fever
I never should have sent
him a present if I had not
went down and put him
to so much expense I hated
not to make Some return I had
no letter From home it worries
me a good deal But I suppose
it is hardly time yet it
is very dull here now work
& money is Both hard to be
got There is a (sic) Apple white
frost in The morning
But it goes away when
The Sun rises I am at the Hotel
with that Lady Friend of mine I am
Certain Miss Ruddock, Miss Kimball are
Both Better off where They are Than here
There is more Irish here than There is in
Ireland [Chinaman?] Liquor [ruins?] Cala
people are Selfish & deceitful There is
So many crowding in here all the
time it makes it very difficult
For Them all to Find employment
There is a new Asylum Started in
Building Besides The one at Stockton
& [Napa?] & one at a place The [they?] Call
Agnew The State of Illinois is years
ahead of This in every way There
is So Few look out here [For?] a home
The Board & So exist when The [they?]
get work when The [they?] do not Starve
I tell you There is lots of poor people
even here where the yellow Gold
Seems So plenty I had [Several?]
offers of work one 25 Doll [Dollars?]
I Suppose ....
