Transcript | ANTELOPE HOTEL, Corner of Market and Sacramento Streets. Nearest to the S.P.R.R. Depot. Mrs. E. SMALL, Proprietor. Stockton, Cal., [California?] January 13th 1891. Dear Sister I recieved [received?] your letter today was more than pleased to hear From you your news cheers me as it is little I can give in return. I am well in health & glad to know you are the Same I am Surprised to hear the Colonel spoke of me he has not Been written to I do not Think as I did not in writing to [Papa?] mention any names of places I want you to go to Mr Stephens and get me a Church letter he may not possibly remember me but refer him to Mr Pound. Mrs Richmond you know I attended there nearly constantly I would like to unite with The Episcopal here and have seen The Rector his name is Mr Lemon Mr Stephens may remember him he was two years in Detroit & preached a few Sundays in Pontiac he said I did not need a letter But I would much rather you would get me one if you possibly could without too much trouble I am pleased with the opinion Dr. Pepper has of me I had ans [answered?] their letter From Miss McCrory she is entirely reconciled to her lot I had a letter From Mr Andrews he is not in quite such a hurray [hurry?] out as he was at First I wrote Mr Wood The truth he can like or not I wish he was out here and liked it I would give up asylum life if he wanted me but I will never ask him to Come as he might not like it I had no letter from Willie in Some time he has been Sick with Typhoid Fever I never should have sent him a present if I had not went down and put him to so much expense I hated not to make Some return I had no letter From home it worries me a good deal But I suppose it is hardly time yet it is very dull here now work & money is Both hard to be got There is a (sic) Apple white frost in The morning But it goes away when The Sun rises I am at the Hotel with that Lady Friend of mine I am Certain Miss Ruddock, Miss Kimball are Both Better off where They are Than here There is more Irish here than There is in Ireland [Chinaman?] Liquor [ruins?] Cala people are Selfish & deceitful There is So many crowding in here all the time it makes it very difficult For Them all to Find employment There is a new Asylum Started in Building Besides The one at Stockton & [Napa?] & one at a place The [they?] Call Agnew The State of Illinois is years ahead of This in every way There is So Few look out here [For?] a home The Board & So exist when The [they?] get work when The [they?] do not Starve I tell you There is lots of poor people even here where the yellow Gold Seems So plenty I had [Several?] offers of work one 25 Doll [Dollars?] I Suppose .... |
