Transcript | San Francisco Oct. 1st 1893 Dear Mother and Sisters and Bros Do not Blame me for not Writing Sooner I just got your letter yesterday I left Stockton after a Stay of three weeks So consequently I did not get your letter when it arrived and it was only yesterday afternoon it reached me I am sorry your letter was opened But if I remember aright [right?] of the contents it mattered little I am very glad to know you are all well Mother in particular you said nothing about Grandma I hope she is well tell her I very often wish I could see her Give her my Dearest Love I am feeling much Better than when I last wrote to you and with God's Help trust to See you all some day I weighed about one week ago 130lbs that is 3 less than I used to weigh at the Asylum you [your?] letter really pleased me very much But you did well to Apologize for the writing I should not have known as yours But no matter for those things I hope a Farmers wife in the old Country will not degenerate you any Be careful about Having children such things come along naturally But when you have not got any you never miss them take my word they are lots of trouble and Hard work we are having Beautiful weather now here it seems the Choicest Season of the year in San Francisco I was up twice to the Asylum while in Stockton Mr Kimball has left there there is a good many changes since I was there I think if I wanted to I should have little difficulty in Getting a situation there now or at San Bernardino as a Dr Campbell from Mich. [Michigan?] is Supt [Superintendent?] at latter place you see I have not got over the Asylum [Craze?] yet Ah I tell Annie you a [and?] me had some very good times in the East I often think of Mrs Kelly and I must try and write to her We anticipate a great time at the Mid Winter fair here next Spring from Chicago it will make things lively here for a while There really is 10 times more people here now than can Find employment they keep coming steadily on account of the nice Climate I have never heard from Willie Since I conclude he is offended with me as well as you I may take a run down there Sometime it is only I think 150 miles he said that he was realizing Big profit from his vineyard Willie has some good qualities But I did not Share much of his Benevolence I suppose you get a letter once in a while from the East I met a woman from Detroit here I was real pleased to talk with her yesterday My Husband I & a real nice neighbour we have an Irish woman took a Trip to the Cliff House a wild & Beautiful Scenery on the Pacific Ocean Coast we watched the Sea lions and listened to their dismal howling as the [they?] clambered up the rocks to think that my Home lay far Beyond the Atlantic and the waves of the Pacific rolling at our feet would make one naturally feel the [they?] had seen at least their share of this worlds wonders The city of San Francisco is a wonder in itself it is called the city of hills and so you would say if you rode over some of them it has a Harbour where Ships Come from all parts of the world much larger than New York well Annie I am afraid you will not find my letter very interesting But your time will be given a good deal to please that old man of yours that you will not notice it I say wear the pants part of the time and you will get along just as well I go just as far with mine as I think might and no Further now Annie I understand what you want me to do and will respond as soon as I can you know I am not in the Asylum and lately I have had just no ambition But I trust for Better days now with Best Love to all I will Close Bell Write Soon |
