Transcript | Stockton Nov 30th 1890 Dear Sister I received your letter a few days ago was very pleased to hear From you and interested with all you told me I am real sorry to know Mrs Shulty is Back give her my regards The Dr must be Highly pleased with his new Bride She is not a young one I am glad to know you Heard from home and that They are all well I have a Bad Cold just now nothing serious I did get Mr Wood (sic) picture he looks very natural But I think it Flatters him Some Willie Sent me one of his in his uniform There is a vast difference in the looks of each I have been to see Willie he made a very pleasant time For me you could not do Better Than link your life to his his morals as Far as I can See of Them Is different From The other Weirs and in Fact From most other men I have known he is Both kind and Considerate Seems to have good Common Sense Sound Judgement and able to make money does not indulge in Liquor and nor Foolish Conversation he seems to Think Highly of you and looks Forward to your Coming out In The Spring But If as he tells me He is unwilling to Settle down in This StateI think it is by Far The wisest plan For you to have him go Back There if he wants you have you given up [with?] Bill I hardly know what to write to Mr Wood I am afraid he will not like it if he comes out here the General will outdo herself if she leaves her place to Come out here But do not do not [undeceive?] her She thinks She knows more Than Common people I tell you is is (sic) a Hard matter to get a position here people wait round For years and dont get a position it is ruled more by influence Than merit I have not Seen Mr Kimball in Some time when I was talking with him he Said he was Sole watchman For 17 Hundred I like The other nightwatch very much But he is married to a woman old enough to be his mother I like a Black Dress Because it is the most serviceable I dont know about Shoes you might Get them too large I am going to get along with what I have until The Spring By the way did I tell you that I am trying to make a conquest on a Handsome Irishman that Boards at the Hotel of my Friend I am going to try and get me his picture he looks very much like Joey Bastin Send me all the news and write soon I must Close Hoping this will Find you Well attend the episcopal Church regularly yourself Bel [Isabella Weir?] |
