Transcript | Washington Colony January 15th 1892 My Dear Annie It is with pleasure I take up my pen to write in answer to your kind & welcome letter which I recieved [received?] a few days ago and was very glad to know that you were well after such an experiance [experience?]. I seen an account of the fire in the papers & I did not feel well for a week at first I thought I would write so I concluded to wait trusting that you would write as soon as you got an uppertunity [opportunity?] if nothing serious happens one thing that made me more alarmed was that I knew you were working night-work & you would just be about sleeping then the following sunday morning they had a Hotel burned in a little town town (sic) south of here about 25 miles the fire which was caused by the explosion of a gasoline stove broke out about 3 am & carried away 5 lives with some of them burned to death in their beds without being woke up until they were wrapt [wrapped?] in flames I had a letter from Mr Moore about the 3rd Inst from the way he talked they had written several letters to me but were returned they have got so that if a letter has not got the number or street or box no on they wont pay any attention to it, I should have another letter from them by now but he wrote the adress [address?] so crowded that I am not certain whether I got it right or not anyhow they are living on 3rd St San Francisco he did not send much news he said he would send more next time if it came allright [alright?] they were all well at last account I have not heard anything from home lately probably there is some.... |
