Transcript | Fresno, Cal, December 29th 1890 My Dear Annie Just a few lines to let you know that I had a letter from Bella on saturday & a nice scarf pin. I was a kind of surprised to hear from her as I was going to write to find out what had become of her she is well and stopping at the Hotel with that lady friend of hers the Asylum is not very crowded now: & is greatly involved in debt so the Dr left off several of the employees for a couple of months I was expecting to hear of her being married but she did not mention anything about it this time I think Bella is capable of paddling her own canoe it is very few of the girls back home has got nerve enough to make their living among strangers like you and Belle has done the fog is clearing away & we are expecting nice weather pretty soon I was a kind of surprised getting a present from Bella as it was the farthest thought in my mind. Christmas passed off here pretty quiet the boys all fell cheery but my thoughts was in Michigan. I hope I shall pass a much pleasanter one next year with the object of my thoughts, now Annie it is drawing close up to 91. the time is rolling by pretty lively I am watching the days glide away & it cheers me in my loneliest hours when I think of you Bella says she may go to [napa?] & apply for a position there that is about 100 miles north of Stockton in this state it is a much larger Asylum than Stockton but I think she had better wait for a while before going up there something might turn up that she would get back I see by the papers yous [you?] are having pretty cold weather in the east now I would dread that cold weather I dont think I could live in that country now if I did I would want to start in early in the summer so that I would get hardened in time for a Sleigh ride It must be great sport to get out on a sleigh with ones best girl They are not much up to sport in this country it is all for money & it dont take long to spend it when it is made it goes pretty near as quick as it come with some people I have been waiting for a letter from My Brother in Australia now for 3 months but I guess I aint going to get any I suppose he has got himself a comfortable home & he dont think about his friends any more that dont be the way with with you an [and?] me we will always remember our friends. I have been thinking about the style the [Wilsons?] put in when they went home I am sure they flew pretty high for a while Mary used to put in lots of style when she would cruise home from Smylies. I used to put in some great nights there they used to hate to order me off but they would have liked awful well to have done it But we will have a pretty good time when we go home our selves. I have not much more to say at present hoping that this will find you enjoying good health as it leaves me at present & wishing you a very happy new year I remain as ever your Sincere Willie with fondest regards write soon good Bye for a while |
