Transcript | San Francisco Dec [December?] 4 95 [1895?] Dear Father Mother and Brothers it is time for me now to answer your kind letter that I received a month ago was glad to hear that you all was in good health Hannah Johnny Frank and myself is well thank God Johnny is getting a big boy and Frank can talk pretty good by this time now when I am writing Johnney is sitting on the table holding the ink for me he says he will soon go to see Grand Papa and Grand Mama when I ask him his name he says Johnney Browne from Tyrone he calls Frank O'Donnell from Tyrone. By the time you get this note it will be near Christmas I am sending a very small present only two pounds I want you father to buy some snuff and you mother get a good strong pound of tea from Mary Anne and also get Edward and Mick a little present. I dont name Johnny or Francis I guess they got lots of money of their own. Dear Father if you ever want any money let me know if only I have a shilling and you want you get the half of it thank God I have good health and get pretty good wages. We have very nice weather this winter for so far only two days rain so far times is getting a little better more work wages is about the same I got all the news about home from John Lynch a great many changes around their [there?] since I left John was very lucky got [not?] to work after he got here has a good steady job at coal John is very steady good thing for him Johnny McNally is not near him Mick Duggan is working all the time along with me for Mr Peabody Johnny Duggan went to the country 8 months ago never wrote since Charles Semple works with the Christian Brothers still he comes to see us every two weeks is getting very fat he is well liked by the Brothers Mary Jane is still in the same place making lots of money Mark Duggan calls to see us every Sunday night I sent two papers last week lots of Irish news in them Brother Matthew was up to our house last week their [there?] was an entertainment in the college John O'Donnell and I was to it After it was over about 20 priests and the same number of Brothers sat down to supper so Brother Matthew had John and me take part with them I tell you we would rather be out B [Brother?] Matthew wanted us to eat and drink all on the table he is very good wanted to be remembered to you all Bob in particular Philip and wife John Mary Ann and family is well Hannah Johnny and Frank send their love to you all wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year your son P Brown |
