TranscriptDear Matty New York 5th September 1787
Above you have Copy of my last & the
30th past I recd [received?] the pleasure of yours 26
June the Mail from here of that Month
had but 19 days passage therefore you woud [would?]
get more of the 6th by her soon after you wrote
Hugh Gaine who is a very worthy Character
& has known me from my infancy havg [having?]
served his time to Frank Jay had taken
a great deal of pains & gone to a heavy expense
in the Education of his son, but all of a
sudden he took to drinking which I fear
shortened his days. I hope you have been
at Cottown ere this, as its proper now &
then, & that you make the Tennants [tenants?]
more punctual. I am sorry to hear of sister Bells
indisposition, if she woud [would?] Chew a little
Rhubarb when she has that Complaint
it would relieve her, its what always
relieves me & is one of Dennys prescriptions
to me. I can add nothing about the Company
affairs untill [until?] Mr Sadler returns. I think
the Bank may be a useful institution
& beneficial to the Proprietors. I did not
know Mrs Apsly. Mrs Smith was Mary
Ann Jones, an old Acquaintance of mine
therefore shoud [should?] be pleased to hear
of her Recovery. I am heartily Disposed to return
as soon as I possibly can, & you are fully
Acquainted with my Situation, I shall
be able to send you & Mr Isaac some
fine Aples [apples?] this Winter & some other
thing, whether I remain here or not
I am with Love to our Sisters Dr [Dear?] My [Matty?]
