Transcript | Mr Thos. [Thomas?] Chapman Georgetown Dr [Dear?] Sir, By [your?] desire, I herewith enclose you a statement of my demand against the Estate of the late Robt [Robert?] Kirkpatrick Esq., [with?] that amount of [?], which I [hold?] just - [?] to the [inquiry?] of the [?], you state - I can only say I never had [heard?] a complaint before, and that [can?] [?] is to be the fault of [preparation?] in sitting or farming, it passed the inspection of the person sent by Mr K. - to have it handled and packed, and had it [?] [?] been observed to be [imperfect?], it was his duty to have had it passed a second time thro' [through?] the ocean, or the [?] Respecting the [1 lb?] of ruff [rough?] rice you [charge?] I can only deny on the affidavit of my [?], that there was a [?] [loss?] returned than was deposited in my Barn - Besides had there been one less, I can easily correct the amount by a demand [as?] the Executor of that Estate for having Ingaged [engaged?] the use of my [Mill?], whenever [I should?] have water, leading me thereby to [pure?] other [?], and after despositing the [ruff?] [rice?], removing it before I had ever been consulted on the subject - But as I have once estimated, I now repeat, that it was not my intention to drain from the Estate of a Neighbour a petty debt of a few pounds. But if driven to the trouble of obviating an unexpected demand, I shall certainly require the [full?] [?] [due?] me - The Indemnity & Mortgage [rate?] we carried to you when I must go to Town, or [advise?] you if you will call on me, when you come to Waccamaw - as I have not a contract over the services of Mr [Simms?] - I am - Dr [Dear?] Sir Your most obed. [obedient?] sert. [servant?] Thos: [Thomas?] Young. 14th July 1801 Mr Thos. [Thomas?] Chapman. |
