Transcript | Pontiac Nov 29 1892 Dear Annie It is a long time since I received your letter but Miss Harrison told me soon after I got it that she had written to you and told you all the news, so I thought it would be useless for me to try and write right away after that. there has been very few changes lately so I do not know as I can find much news to tell you. Only one thing in particular. What a difference there is between the present occupants of the cottage and the ones that used to live there. one night we went to supper a little after 5.30, and behold: if our table wasnt cleared away and we had no supper. We said nothing. Thanksgiven [thanksgiving?] I was away so it dident [didn't?] effect [affect?] me, but the girls went to supper and there was no turkey simply pork, how was that for meaness [meanness?] I am mean enough but I never made a man go without his supper. Miss Green was discharged a few days ago, did you know her. Mrs Layton reported something she did. Oh Yes, You cant imagine how nice Mrs [Levison?] is she is at the cottage and is just as nice as she can be they feel very much encouraged now with her case You dont talk very encouraging about coming back here. I am afraid you intend to settle down over there on the other side of the water. Mr [Blair?] has given up all hopes of getting Miss Dodd. he dont say any thing about her latly [lately?] the boys plagued him most to death. Well Annie. You remember I told you the time would come when they would speak to me about not reporting. I have to do it now, at first it was awfully hard but I dont mind it so much now. if the girls break the rules they can take the consequences a few got angry at me but have got over it [once?] again. Well Annie I am going to continue this letter although it is now the 9 of Dec. Nothing of any note happened except the graduating exercise last night which for show was grand but rather a fraud I think as there was none of the graduates took part, simply the Physicians and Trustees took part, and Miss [Vinten?] sang Old Guss played and there was Orchestra from down town played sweet music. Teddie did his best in flower decoration and [indeed?] it was a grand affair. after the Exercises were over Dr and Mrs Burn Received the class and their friends in their rooms on the 3d floor were [where?] refreshments were served. Well Annie, Mary [Parmen?] has a friend, Mr Potter the one with the big [nose?]. he took her to Church and to the exercise it is only a week old but I guess well [we'll?] continue to hold just the same. Miss Harrison changed her name neither has Mrs McFarlin but there seems to be hopes for them both. I am the only one left, like the last leaf on the tree. Yes we get along very nicely here at the cottage. Well what are your prospects for coming back to the U.S. do you think you will come or are you going to settle in the Old country. Fannie Night: is on the road, I guess that is what makes her so awfully mean. Well about thi [the?] patients. Mrs [Nickhas?] is in hall C. doesnot [doesn't?] do much harm but is as silly as ever. [Mrs?] [Shelp?] still wrings her hands and asks for the kind lady with thi [the?] lantern to let her out. I dont know of any more news to write so I will close hoping to hear from you soon. So you got an invitation to G [Wards?] wedding and your hat was nice and I am so glad to hear Belle got through her trouble all right. Do you like it back there in your old home as well as in this country of course I know home ties have a good deal to do with it but I thought you would sure come back here Write soon I am ever your loving friend Lina |
