Transcript | June 11th 1888 Detroit Mich [Michigan?] My dear friend I received your most welcome letter last Saturday and was very glad to hear from you I was just thinkinge [thinking?] all my friends had forsaken me I have written to Belle, Mr McCracken, John Bell Mrs Bell, and Anne Mills, and have received no answers. but I am very pleased to say or to tell you good news Papa hardly ever drinks now and he stays home nights Emily dont go down to that saloon as much as she used to so I have lots to be thankful for I am not working out since I was out in the country while I was out the lady got worse so they got a woman to take care of her I have been almost sick with a cold and cough all last week but I am feeling better now I was very glad to hear how Bella is advancing she can clothe herself nicely now. John Wallace must feel [bad?] to lose their baby it was such a pretty baby to [too?] it seems every [everyone?] has some trials but it all for good to them that love God better for it to die now than to die a drunkard. I never see any of the Southfield folks unless when I go down town I wish they would give us a call when they come in. Mr and Mrs Tucker always comes up when they come in it is only 5 blocks out of their way to come up Grand River [Avenue?] we had the measles when we first came to America, there is a great deal of sickness in detroit the Lady I was working for has a cancer in her stomach she is getting worse all the time I have not seen [Eddy?] Arthur for a long time I I have photographs I got 1« dozen taken I have only 7 of them left I will send you one in this letter when you go up to Mrs Bell show it to her and if she wants one I will send her one as soon as they write to me I dont think I will send any to Mamma untill I know Mamma is better I wrote to Belle before I wrote to you and I think it strange that she dont answer this is all so I must conclude wishing to be remebered [remembered?] to all I remain Yours truly M E Ling write soon and send you [your?] photo as you can |
