Dr [Dear?] Robert
I received yours bearing date
April 1 last week, which gave us all great comfort
and satisfaction to know that you were well and
content with your condition and also that you are
so well reconsiled [reconciled?] with Mr Peters and him with
you it would have gave us all heartfelt greif [grief?] if
you had parted with him before your three
years was up, it will be much to your credit
and to our comfort if you continue there the
full time, no matter what temptations you may
meet with to the contrary resist them all, if so,
you may depend it will be better for you in
time to come. I beg you will be very cautious
in your fowling excurions, recolect [recollect?] how many
young men has been rendred [rendered?] useless through life
and a burden to others by hurts and wounds at
that employment and many has even lost their
life by it. I heard of one that was killed some
miles from this about a week ago, and I read of
another last night. Lord save you from dangers
and evils of every kind, take him for your guide
on all occasions and you will be safe from harm.
There is a letter for you from John and Prudence
on its way at this time. We are all in a measure
of health at present thanks be to God. Margrat [Margaret?] has
been very poorly these 9 or 10 weeks past but is now
recovering Eliza continues to be as gaining a child as
ever was in this house, for these six months past
I have went through more toil and slavery than
ever I did in the same time in all my life before
at home and in the fields I had Henery [Henry?] McCariston
21 1/2 days this season inlarging [enlarging?] the yard and hinging [hanging?]
five new gates. Remember me in the kindest manner
to Mr Riddle consult him as a friend on all occasions
tell him I still deal with Mr Reford besure [be sure?] to
mention the Mr Murrays family in your next.
I was seeing your Grandfather sunday last he is well
and desired to be remembered to you. John Lavery
and wife and mother has all had the fever
but are all on foot again wishing you every comfort
and happiness for soul and body I remain your loving.
