[County?] Down Ireland Dear Sir You will think me verry [very?] Tarday [Tardy?] in writing to you I was always waiting to see If I could buy a vessell [vessel?] I have Bought at last Schr [Schooner?] Ada Madoria from Whi[stained] called the best built vessell [vessel?] [stained] rest water She Is 5 years old and Carries about 21000 Bushels to Buffalo I was offered $14000 for the Glad Tidings But would not sell Sam has sold the 1/2 of the Enterprise to Tom Sculley at [stained] rate of $3000 Cash Down 1000 [stained] provision has sold Vermont for $13000 [stained] Deacks [Decks?] and Deck frame on the Wooden Vessels Is high in Price this winter It has been very Cold this winter We have got nothing done As yet with the Vessels. Ada Madoria Is In Toledo with Black Wallnot [Walnut?], for Ogdens Fury She is full sized Cannall Vessell [Canal Vessel?] Sam and Mrs is in good health! I was sick about one week with giddiness in the head I was Vessell [Vessel?] Hunting about 3 Weeks and It was to Faitaging [too Fatiguing?] for Mr Bella is in goo health the children is sick with Hooping [Whooping?] Cough Will think it is about time you was back I suppose you will be thinking it is about time to start we have a good deal of work to do we have not got them scraped off this winter It was so Cold It was below zero all Winter Some Times is [as?] Low As 22 Bella #PAGE 2 Say she is sorry to here [hear?] By your letters of all, the old Maids and young Widdows [Widows?] being married before you got home, I had a letter from my sister Betty last week you can give her my Best Respects She says in of her letter that there is an old aquaintance of mine by [stained] called Adrew [Andrew?] Harper you might call and see him and if he wants aney [any?] Corn for [stained] If you can spare give him £1 for me mabey [maybe?] his famely [family?] Is able to take care of him use your own Judgement in the Case Give my kindest Wishes to your Mother and Sister and famely [family?] Liken Bella to Remember me to all my Aquaintances And when your [stained] dont foreget [forget?] Sam Donaldson [stained] The Folks in Bridgeport [stained] all in good health Sam is [stained] about selling out Mrs Regons Property he is offered $3000 Cash $1500 Down Ballance in one year I hope you had a pleasant time of it at home your sister Nancey [Nancy?] Is in good health she was here about 3 Weeks Back We all Join In send you our Kindest Wishes And hope to soon See you Yours With Respect Nicholas Martin 295 Main St. [Street?] Chicago Ill.
