Transcript | To The Right Honble [Honourable?] Robt [Robert?] Peel Chief Secretary Dublin Castle Sir, Waterford 2d January 1814 I have received your letter of the 29th of Januaury ult inclosing a Memorial of a Mr Forrestall, which (so far as respects) my conduct is not correctly stated as I never interfered any further in this matter, than to signify that I thought it most advisable to make his application to Government, and not to me, in case it were necessary to have any Sanction or Authority for permitting Persons to emigrate from this Country. Conceiving therefore that I had nothing to do with the Business, I certainly did refuse taking any sort of responsibility on myself, or to sanction by [...ting ?] under my hand, an act that might, (for aught I could tell) be perverted to the purposes of taking [officers?] from hence, perhaps to foreign Countries, against which there appears to be an existing Statute Law, and which within those few days, has been promulgated in the publick [public?] newspapers of this City. I have the Honor to be Sir Your most obedt [obedient?] Mayor of Waterford |
