Transcript | Tomale July 1879 Dear Sir I now sit Down to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well at Present hoping to find you all in the same, this is a Preity [Pretty?] rough country I would say it was Hill [Hell?] and I bleive [believe?] the are no Irish man there but no mistake it is the [second?] Place I expect to see cowan butchering here after He leaves there People here say this year ends this World and if that be so we will soon all meet in the sporting Ground the People Here Do not believe much in god the are a little feard [feared?] of the dog with the cloven foot - the greatest Pagan in Ireland when he would be here a week would not say one word of prayer let Him out even [---?] Hugh White I used to say my Prayers after I came but I seen it was no use for all the time I Had to be in bed and there forgot them all together well Robert I mean all I say I Do not advise any man or woman to leave the old Contry [Country?] that can get transportation at Home for it is Prefarable [preferable?] to this Contry [Country?] the [----?] I am as Happy as the Day is long and that is long enough about 18 Hours on an average; this contry [country?] would answer Mary Jane, for she would git [get?] Her Prates [potatoes?] and [Mangle?] meals 3 times a Day only it would would not answer letitia for the tea Here is as a clear as your spout if charles McVeigh was as [w---?] of america as I am He would not go far in a Hogs Head but if He would get the [----?] He must mind His work and go on but that would be nothing to Him the People talk about the ships grub the get Here but I was as well but I was as well fed with [----?] as everI was Here only on Sunday I got as many [mates?] as ever [-----?] got Bernard Magell could get no young cuckoos in this contry [country?] very Hard for a man to Pay 6 Pound a month for Has 3 or 4 Hundred acres of oats not a Hare better than Mcfalls was now as most crops at home would be bought a good crops in this contry ... for farm and dairy produce the mostly depends on potatoes here but the are no Price for them this year the now only from 20 to 30 cents a hundred and the mostly were from 2 or 3 hundred cents I supose [suppose?] yous had a Big time as the 12 the are no word if anything of the sort here everyone... the find nearest I would like to have a [----?] to hear of the [----?] and see how the harvest was this summer the ar [are?] nothing a see as Plentiful in this contry [country?] as you Liking there Blankets and looking for work and [Doubt?] [---?] [--?] [--?] Before a man or woman emigrates let them get Patrick Hunters advice I must conclude for now of men only we are the true born sons of [Ulia?] Arthur McAuley I would like to know if Dan randle be married yet Arthur McAuley Tomale Marine county California |
