Transcript | To His Exy [Excellency?} Charles Duke of Richmond Lord Lieutenant General and Genl [General?] Governor of Ireland Dublin Castle To his Excellency Charles Duke of Richmond Lord Lieutenant General and General Givernor of Ireland The Petition of Isabella Bryson of the parish of Bangor in the county of Down Humbly sheweth That Petitioner's husband Andrew Bryson having been implicated in the assosication [Association?] of United Irish men previous to the year 1798, in the month of June in that year thought it best to emigrate to America lest he might be induced to take any part in the troubles of those unhappy times, particularly as he had taken the benefit of his Majesty's Gracious Proclamation in the year 1797 by swearing alligiance [allegiance?] to his Majesty and entering into securities. That from that period till very lately Petr's [Petitioner's?] husband has resided in the United states of America, never claiming the privileges of an American Citizen, lest he should by that forfeit those of a British subject, and Petr. [Petitioner?] has been so long deprived of his society she being far advanced in years and bodily infirmity rendering her incapable of undertaking a long voyage. That Petr. [Petitioner?] being confident her husband had never borne arms against the Legitimate Government of the Country, that his object in joining any assosiation [association?] extended no farther than a reform in the Commons house of Parliament,a firm conviction on the mind of your Petr [Petitioner?] that any act her husband had committed in joining those associations had been completely done away by his conforming to the Proclamation and by the Act of amnesty passed in the year 1798, &c observing particularly that system of conciliation & [Concern?] which marks your Excellency's Government Petr [Petitioner?] took the liberty of requesting the return of her husband whose property in this country for want of a person qualified to superintend it, has been in a considerable degree deranged so much so that from a comfortable competence Petr. [Petitioner?] and her five daughters [were?] in danger of being reduced to a state of indigence. Petr's [Petitioner's?] husband has complied with her repea[t?]ed solicitations and thrown himself into the bosom of his family in hopes he would be permitted to remain with them, but he unhappily has heard that he is charged with Political delinquency and is threatened if he does not again leave the country he will be arrested for Acts which he humbly concieves [conceives?] could they have been substantiated his bail would long in this been forferited Petr [Petitioner?] therefore submits her case to your Excellency's humane consideration and throws herself on the well known Clemoncy [Clemency?] peculiar to your Excellency's most noble & honourable house presuming to hope that your Excellency will have the goodness to extend your Gracious protection to Petr. [Petitioner?] & her Husband and permit him to remain in the Country for 18 months or till the intercourse with America as again open that he may have it in his power to dispose of his property and remove his family with him to America - And Yr [your?] Petr [Petitioner?] as in duty bound will ever Pray |
