TranscriptIrishmen in Virginia

Belfast, 12th October, 1784 - Extract from a letter
respecting America:- "The only good thing I have ever
heard from the Virginians is their Citizen Bill. It confers
the rights of citizens on Irishmen after residence of
two years, which puts them on a level with all the nations
in the world except the British Dominions. Englishmen are
not naturalised till after residence of five years, and
a Scotsman must reside thirty years to qualify him for
enjoying the rights of the citizens of Virginia.
