Transcript | Extract of a letter from Baltimore, U.S.A. dated June 22, 1822. "We had a meeting of the Hibernian society yesterday evening, to take into consideration the propriety of contributing from our funds to the relief of the distressed peasantry in the south of Ireland, when it was unanimously decided to commence a subscription, as well among ourselves as the inhabitants generally. It was proposed to send a cargo of flour, but on the suggestion of Mr.-------, who you know is an influential member, I think it will be determined to send the money to you to purchase meal, potatoes, etc. to have distributed." |
