Transcript | ANCHOR LINE Twin crew Steamer CALEDONIA Thursday Eving [Evening?] 8 O Clock My Dear Lizzie I now take this chance of writing to you we have had a very pleasant day I may say it is the first fine day since we sailed it has been very stormy & nearly all the people were sick with the motion of the Ship There is 12.050 passengers on board I did not feel very well untill today I was up & down almost all the time & got the best of attendance from the Stewartess [Stewardess?] got my breakfast in bed tea eggs toast or anything else I desired beef tea at eleven O clock & dinner at 1 O Clock consisting of roast beef & vegetables [illegible] with desert [of?] [?] [?] [puddings?] [illegible] [wine?] [illegible] & tea, coffee in [?] [Then?] tea at 5 O clock consisting of [?] [?] onions potatoes mutton fish pickles sauces & at 8 O clock for supper there is tea coffee cheese biscuits or if you prefer grewel [gruel?] you get it served in your own room. The food is all of the best quality only the tea it is very bad I cannot taste it the coffee is good. today I got a jug of hot water & made some tea which I enjoyed very much so I will always have a cup when I wish. We have a four berth room all to ourselves one of the berths is let down to make a couch as we have it to lie on. I may say we are very well accommodated I think better than in the [Ca--ronia?]. We have seats at the first table & is waited on by a stewart [steward?] each one has ten persons to wait on #PAGE 2 the young man that attends us we had seen him before as he had been on the tram cars as a conductor in Glasgow. I hope you got the photos safe I had not time to post the Cabinet one so I left it with Mrs Rodgers to send it home I liked it very much. I was sorry I had only three with the enlargement they only cost 2s I hope Hessie will get her Mothers safe I gave the ticket to her Cousin to post it to her. I had a time of it packing up the [--se?] we had he did not think it large enough so he made another & it could not be packed but outside the door so we had to wait untill [until?] Thursday to do it. I was sorry I could not take the box of [?] & I had no time to consider what to do so I just sent them to you. You can keep the two plaques for me & the books I hope you got all safe. There was a box of books & [brushes?] & any thing [anything?] you require in it take it I had no room for my sofa cushion so I gave it to Mrs Rodgers she has been very kind to us they are going to move over to Govan in two or three weeks time do not neglect but write to her Friday evening It is told us today that we may Land on Sabbath morning we will only be sorry as we have had such a nice time here on board. Saw three or four whales today. There is to be a concert tonight & there is a band on board to play at intervals during the day |
