Mr. W. [William?] Wightman,

Dear Wm [William?],

I received your kind invitation to pay you
a visit to-day and rest assured that nothing would afford me
more pleasure than to see you but I am waiting on some No [North?] Alabama
friends that wish to start home as soon as we can get our
passes from Nashville. I mentioned in a letter to my sister
Anne that I had a great notion to go and see my cousin Mary
Anne as I expected she could give me some news from home.
McAllister wrote to you in relation to Wm. [William?] Patton late in your
City. Did you get it. Miss Dyer brought news of his death at
Brushear City nearly one year ago. Please write me care of
Wm. [William?] Davies & Co this city. Your friends in Florence were all well when I left. If matters do not quieten down in our country we
will be forced to leave it - is a hard thing to be forced off
at this time - how is my old friend John, is he still in Pekin?
Give my love to Mary Anne and the children and believe me

Yours friend

(Burnside)
