Transcript | Belfast 8 Lincoln Av. [Avenue?] April 1930 To The President of St Vincent De Paul College St. Louis State of Missouri Rev.d [Reverend?] Dear Sir Excuse my writing you. but when You consider my queries, you will not refuse reply. Our local Catholic Newspaper the Belfast Irish weekly has for some weeks past been publishing an article entitled The Journal of an Irish Emigrant Hugh Quin who left Portaferry Co. Down in the year 1817. for America. And as every few weeks will [terminate?] all the information they have as it only relates to his voyage from Ireland to America. I have a letter written by him from St. Louis College Missouri State in the year 1820 three years after his leaving home. which is written on an obituary note. a copy of which I send you as I believe he was ordained in your College some time after 1820. would there be any possibility of us ascertaining when he was ordained priest and whether there is any information relating to him as I am informed he kept a diary of his life from the day he left home in 1817 until his death which I believe occurred rather suddenly in Dublin about 1840. on his way home. on a visit to Co. Down which of course he did not reach. [no further information given] |
