| Transcript | Drumcullion January 21. 1881 My Dear brother I am sorry too have to bear the mourneful News of my Poor fathers Death. He took ill on Thursday 16th. of December and died on Sunday the 19th. He had the enjoyment of good health up to that but the change soon came. Medical Assistance had No avail. Inflimation was the cause of his Death. We deeply regret the loss of sutch a father. He was as sensible as ever to his last moments. We must not grieve he is better off. He told me to not be fretting for he was all right and so he was. I never witeness sutch a seine [scene] to see him Praying to God to his last moments. We have every right to be thankful to God when It was his will to take him too see him pass triumphant home to Glory And our friends and Neighbours told us that we had no right to be sorry. But we must bear the trebles and trials of this world. He was in his 79 year of his age. My Mothers health is failing for the past few years But she is reasonable Considering all. The rest of us all enjoy good health Thank God for his mercies to us Hoping that theese few lines will find you and family in good health. We have great frost and snow here at present Bur we had a find [fine] harvest the warmest weather I ever seen. Ireland is in a disturbed state at the present time caused by the Irish National Land League But it is thought that the Government will put it down. Some think it will raise a war but I think it will not goe so far. God for bid It would. The people in the west And South of Ireland are the worst about the Land League. The are not so bad in the North But it is creeping into it too. The think the land is set to dear. They think the Landlords is too hard. A great deal of them has given An Abatement all ready and is expected to do more. Our Landlord hase given None yet. My Dear Nixon you will let George and Eliza know of the Sorrowful Mews of their fathers Death. I have not their directions. Iff I had I would write to them also. I will write to Mr Cameron I have his directions too. My Dear Brother I pray to God that us and yours may be as well prepared to meet Our God as our Father was. He said to me a short time before he died that Heaven is worth a Contending for. I hope we shall all meet him there.
