TranscriptGentlemen,
As I understand you have had
a long and intimate connection with the
Southern States, I take leave to apply to
you for information on the following matter.
I have received in remittance from Georgia
a quantity of the notes of the late
Confederate States. They appear to be
payable on demand, two years after the
conclusion of a definitive treaty of peace
between the Confederate & the United
States. What I wish to know is, whether it
is practicable to convert them at present
into English money, and by what means,
or if you are unable to give me this information,
whether you can refer me to any agent
or other party connected with the late
Confederate States, who can give me
definite information on this subject.
Trusting you will give me an early reply
and excuse the trouble I am giving you.
I am very truly
W. J. C. A.
Fraser Trenholm & Co.
Liverpool.
