Transcript | Brisbane 3 June 1907 My dear Mother I have been here for eight days, on the occasion of the Conference on general matters, of the Premiers of the States. We have been trying to settle the Rivers question, in which at present the three States are at issue on two points—the depth to be provided by locking and the maximum tolls. We have to resume a discussion, commenced in Brisbane, on Thursday in Sydney and then I hope to get back to Adelaide. This place is semi-tropical: soft, balmy air when fine, and leaden, dead, atmosphere when wet. It is very picturesquely situated on a series, or group of Hills, with Ranges, on three parts of the horizon, in the distance. The weather in winter is usually very still and fine; but we struck three wet days. At their Race Meeting on Saturday one of the winning Horses was owned by a De Burg Perse, one of the Perses of, I think, Moyo. I saw Aunt Lizzie on my way here. She complains of Rheumatism, but seemed otherwise well. I telephoned to Fanny Shackell (Glynn) who said she was laid up, in fact she thought breaking up. She has had a very strenuous life. I must try to see her on my way This place has great undeveloped Resources, but the climate is too tropical for my taste. The Winter is usually very bright and mild, but except in the mountains in higher Country, the air is not keen enough for vigour. I hope you are all well. Abbie and the children were allright when I saw them 12 days ago. With love to all your affectionate Son P McM Glynn |
