| Transcript | Melbourne December 1861 Father Mother and Brothers I write these few lines to let you know that we are well and hope you are the same. I received a letter from James last Saturday and he is well and doing well in New Zealand and wishes for W.J. and me to come over as soon as possible so we are to sail off this evening and spend our Christmas on board the "Mary Ann Wilson". I believe James was very uneasy about me before he left Melbourne and could not think what had come of me as I had neither come down nor sent him word but I did not get his letter until long after he was gone. We would have followed on but we thought it best to wait until we should hear how he got on he had been very uneasy to hear from home the "Empress of the Seas" bound for London was totally destroyed by fire on Wednesday last between Point Nieper and the Quarantine grounds. If you write direct to Mr Kavanagh the same as before until you Hamilton Mcllrath's get more directions. Tell Mrs Alexander that W.J. had a letter nearly on the 'Mary Ann Wilson' wrote for her but would not finish. No more but remains yours, Hamilton Mcllrath |
