Jno. C. Allen Esq. 8 Wellington Place Belfast Ireland My Dear Sir I am this day favoured with yours of the 23 ulto [ultimo?], the family part of which has given Mrs Campbell and myself great pleasure Receive our congratulations - I had this pleasure on the 11th inst. to which I refer. Have this day received from Mr Cumming his own Exchange in the remittances therein mentioned, and I now enclose you herein the second of the set. Geo. R. Cumming Savannah 13 July 1853 in your favour upon Brown Shipley & Co. of Liverpool payable in London at 60 [Dft?] for Three hundred & thirty nine Pounds eleven & ninepence Sterling œ339.11.9. at 9 1/8 pct [percent?] prem [premium?] equal to $1.647.00 in which your interest is $585.00 James Campbell's " $630.00 Do. Trustee " $432.00 $1647.00. I note what you say about [omitted?] [commissions?]. Since entering up the invoice of Cotton purchased & shipped by J [Adger?] & Co. in December 1851, which they did for a [commission?] of [I.P. & Brokers?] and observing that our friend Mr Cumming shipped cotton and invested in [Eqi?] without any charge; I have intentionally omitted the [commissions?] which you allude to. Mr Cumming in the above letter furnishes me with the items of his charges on the 73 Bales Cotton, which changes the amount increasing it $ 2 19/100 and making the Invoice $3.338.87. I hope it will do well, but observing the flucatuations of the Liverpool market think it a mere chance. very truly yours R. Campbell. N.B. I write your Uncle James Campbell by this mail with [Exge?] [Exchange?] from the [Exrs?] [Executors?] for œ185.9.8 for Mr [Beattie?] and Mr Bryson. |
