Transcript | Augusta April 10th 1867 Wm. Jno. [William John?] C. Allen Esq. Ulster Bank, Belfast My Dear Sir I had the pleasure on the 18th ult acknowledging your favour of 23rd February. I have now to advise you of having this day forwarded to J. & J. Stewart & Co. Bankers New York City, a Bank Check for Six Hundred Dollars to be placed to your credit at the current rate of Exchange, to keep up my account with you for disbursements to Miss Carroll and the Misses McWhinneys. On looking over your late letters I find that I failed to respond to an enquiry respecting an old friend your school-fellow the Rev. Dr. Thomas Smyth, and am happy to be enabled to say that he was very recently in the land of the living. I have not since early in the war, had any direct communication with him, but have understood that he is still able to preach a good sermon. Some of his children I think are expected to sail in the same vessel with our valued friend Mr Bones in next month for Liverpool. Please remember us to your cousin Mr. Wm. [William?] Campbell and present Mrs Campbell's affectionate regards to your wife and believe me Dear Sir ever Truly yours R. [Robert?] Campbell. |
