Antrim Ireland Liverpool Novr 25th 52 [1852?] Dear Brother I write you as i [I?] had a letter from the Captain to Day [today?] & he is getting Better But i [I?] think i [I?] think it is But slow But he says he was going to Eat Roast Mutton on that day & that was the 23rd & Potates [Potatoes?] for Dinner he says he is coming on Saturday or Sunday I tell you what it is i [I?] am begining [beginning?] to get frightened i [I?] will not get home for th [they?] are slaping [slapping?] the Cargo in quick & the [they?] say we must sail on the first of the month so that would give me But mighty little time But if not i [I?] will send you the [?] or [Mr John Tweed?] can give the nuse [news?] if i [I?] so not come home i [I?] will send the Price of a new gown and your self 3 or 4 [Plugs?] of Tobaco [tobacco?] & the Price of a Pair New Boots & as for Mother i [I?] must [?] hers & if i [I?] Cannot get this time god spares me i [I?] will next time get home as it is impossible for me know when the Captn [Captain?] is not here, I received a letter from Robt [Robert?] & i [I?] am sorry he cannot mind himself & i [I?] think its a thing he ought to do its a very hard matter if a man trys to do well & cannot get Mary i [I?] know if i [I?] try as i [I?] have done i [I?] will make off & i [I?] intend doing as i [I?] have this last 12 months & i [I?] shall not be sorry at it Write me by return of post tell Mother i [I?] may see her this time yet i [I?] will do my Best any how not to endangre [endanger?] my situation No more at Present But remains your Brother S Smiley I shall write to Robt [Robert?] to morrow [tomorrow?] as he has requested we will be out to morrow [tomorrow?] by noon th [they?] are taking out the one hatch & Puting [putting?] in the other cargo. |
