| Transcript | "Lady Russell" Septr [September?] 27th/54 [1854?] Dear Brother I Cleared to day & [and?] is at present Towing out with the Steam boat, I have on board 354 Passengers Besides 36 of a Crew which I think is quite enough. the Weather is fine & [and?] the wind Light from the S E [south east?] which will do me out the Channel. I was better pleased with My Owners to day as the [they?] made me a present of 10 pounds which the [they?] did not give to any of the other Ships, as the [they?] Said I had been more ecinomical [economical?] & [and?] landed my Passengers all Safe in Quebec & [and?] I think I was entitled to it But no odds what I thought respecting it. I told them I was Proud of it. I hope I will have a good Passage which will make me up the [there?] was about 35 Ships Sailed yesterday & [and?] about 12 to day I send this by one of our young men in the office. this leaves me in good health thank God, hoping this will find you all Enjoing [enjoying?] the Same. I rote [wrote?] to Johny Last night & [and?] will have an answer from him in New Orleans you will write to the care of my consignees in New Orleans Messrs. James Magee & Co [Company?] Give all enquring friends my best respects No more at present But remains your Affte [affectionate?] Brother Saml [Samuel?] Smiley If I lie any time in Lpool [Liverpool?], when I come home I expect to have a Cup of Tea with Mother. & [and?] I hope She is always able to dodge about S [Samuel?] Smiley in a hurry |
