Transcript | Brooklyn March 3rd 1857 Dear Sister I recd [received?] yours, of the 10, of July on yesterday morning, & immediately do I drop a few lines to you in acknowledgement of its receipt, can not [cannot?] tell how I feel on the a/c [account?] that I should cause you or any of you the least unneasiness [uneasiness?], but I have written to you and also to Wm [William?] Locke in the beginning of January, but I think it had not time to reach you ere [before?] you wrote yours, as the packet did not arrive in Liverpool untill [until?] the 9th of July, but I expect it could not be many days after your writing this untill [until?] you recd [received?] it, I was exceedingly rejoiced to hear that circumstances have turned out so favourable, & if I have once grived [grieved?] a Mother's heart in neglecting to write, it shall be the last time, & indeed properly speaking I cannot call it neglect, I know the inconvenience that existed, I will call to see those men tomorrow whom you mentined [mentioned?] & whether I suceed [succeed?] with them or not I am [endeavouring?] to find something better than that wherein I am at present engaged, I will write in the course of a few weeks more as I only send you these few lines hurridly [hurriedly?] lest you did not rec [receive?] my other letters, remember me to all, & with love to them & to you, I will [now?] conclude, I recd [received?] none of the Newspapers - Thos [Thomas?] McDonald and all are well, direct to 162 Myrtle Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y. [New York?] - I am Your affectionate Brother J. Carlisle I must certainly feel grateful to Mr. Hudson for his kind interference in my behalf When life's fleeting scenes are o'er I'll meet you on that happier shore, "may such be ours". |
