Transcript | To John Scott & John McMichael, Philadelphia, 6 November 1756 Dear Gentlemen: I am favoured with yours of the 4th Instant and observe the contents. The snow I mentioned wont doe for you. On Examining her, she wants everything. The Schooner that was taken by the Privateer I am Concerned in was bought by the Privateers owners. We are now fitting her out, will have in Two new masts tomorrow, and Intends her for Jamaica and the Bay of Hondoras, if we cant sell for £350 and all Charges from the Purchase at publick sale. She will cary when Duble Decked about 680 Philadelphia Hogsheads of Flaxseed or 730 Hogsheads of Flaxseed from this place. She will make A Compleat Brigg at a small Expence. The Charge of geting a deck laid wont Cost wilh you more then £60. She wanted when bought two new Masts, a Boom, a Boat, and two spare Sails, besides some Small stores which will make her compleat. If you think on this Character this Vessel Will do for you, Let me know and I will buy her. You may be so prepared with you as to dispatch her in Twelve days after Arrival, as her Deck will be a very easy matter to lay. The Hull is good. She is about Two years old and built In New England. What will be done to the Schooner this week must be done if you buy her, so no time will be lossed to have your Answer. I expect I shall get her Cheaper then the Sum demanded. I own one Quarter of her, which I shall leave to you to be mine or yours when you see the Bargain. You Will have to send a mast and men from your place if I buy her. Purchase on for me as far as one thousand Hogsheads of Flaxseed, if you can get it at or Under 4s Bushell. Dispatch it as fast as possible by good sloops and pray send as much as possible in Bulk. I shall send you Cash from this as fast as you require it, or if you should want sooner, then I can send it. Draw on William Snell & Co. of London on account of our Company for what you may want. I beg you'l not mis an Hour in executeing this order. I am affraid there is more orders from this by this post. Flaxseed here 5/2 per bushel and likely to rise. I expect our export [of] Flaxseed will be 16,000 Hogsheads. Captain Cochran arrived yesterday from Derry, say[s] your Vessel in Liverpool and tells me your Letters are on Board Captain Mitchel and that he spoke to him on the Coast to say Captain Micheal Cochran saw Daniel snow, the Johnson, two days after he got Clear of the land. I Look for him every minute. If my Indigo will sell at Vandue for 3 per pound, put it off if there is no better prospect for it. I woud be glad [to know] how soon you can close sales of the Broken Tea. I request you to do all you can to get of[f] the musketts. WC [P.S.] Pray whats the Premium from this to Jamaica and the Bay. |
