| Transcript | To John Scott and John Mcmichael, Philadelphia, 22 November 1756 Dear Johns: I am favoured with yours of the 18th Instant and shall Examine the sales and note them as found. I wish you had sent the Numbers of them on land. It matters not What goods you include in sales, only charge them with a proportion of Charges. I am well pleased with the Charter you have made. You may depend I shall come up to your agreement and the owners expectations. There is no Otherway to save the Tonage then by Sending a bill of sale and having A New Register taken out. Pray Ask Mr. Griffiths if his Vessel [is bound] to England from Ireland and if he woud take in Forty Tons of Logwood at a Cheap Freight. It wont stop the Voyage of his Vessel. Pray fill her Well with Flaxseed with you. Send me Twelve Casks of very best Antigua rum Marked IF, about 60 Gallons In the Teirce. Pray have it good. Its for Captain Falls. Let the Hogsheads be sold and the Teirces be Gauged. Send them by Crethorn.2 We never draw at longer Sight then 40 days. We have sent you by the stage three setts of bills Each £100 Sterling and the letters of Advice. Have £100 Currency Insured on each 100 Hogsheads of Flaxseed you ship if you can get it done at 21/2 to 3 per Cent and make Mr. Griffith give his master orders to Ransom, if he is taken either on his passage here or to Ireland. I have wrote To Mr. Joseph Chew in your letter. He is a particular Friend of mine. I have desired him to Send orders for a Parcel of the Linnens you Mention to be deli verd you or me. They are in Mr. Terrains hands. I shall do the Need full about your further directions. I will hold a half with you In A Cargoe for your ship, Captain Gardner, if you will take a reasonable Freight to be loaded for Belfast To Thomas Greg with 400 Hogsheads of Flaxseed and the remainder of the Cargoe Wheat at your place. Doe all you can to sell the arms and send as many of the old ones as you can. When you spare time, lett me know how much Powder you have on hand. Dutch powder will be sold here for 20 per Cent before 6 Months. P.S. I send you and Mr. Scott['s] parcell letters by the stage and two for Mr. Dunlope which I Forward by first two Vessels for Europe, Two for Snell & Co. by the Vessel the bills goes by. Pray tell Mr. Bell I have wrote him by the Post. Send me two more of the Wendsor Chairs. The weight of the tea Turns out Poorly. I suppose it has been lost in the Hurry. It shoud turn out 80 pounds more if it is not the two largest Chests of Tea thats on hands, TB Number I and GC Number 4. Pray send for my Gun Locks and Cutlashes that is at Mr. Conynghams. I Forward a Bundle of Goods for Crawford by the Stage Two Bundles for James Hunter and one Box for Joseph Marks that came by the William & George. |
