| Transcript | To Jacob Bosanquet, London 28 December 1756 Sir: The October Packet arrived here Yesterday who brought both your favours of 13th September & 5th October. The Number of Privateers from this place is so great that we seldom are without sales of Prize Goods. We have now Twenty Four Privateers out & yet upwards of Ten more preparing & will soon Sail. What Prizes has been brought in here & sold were bound from Martinico to France. Their cargoes sold: Sugar Muscovado from 3d to 41/2, Second Clayed from 41/2 to 6d, First Clayed 6d to 8d per pound, the Tare is 10 per Cent. Coffee from 71/2d to l0d per pound; the Tare is 2 per Cent addvance on the French Tare. Cocoa sold from 7d to l0d per pound, Tare as the Coffee. Cotton 15d to 17d per pound. Our Currency at present is £182.10.0 Currency for £100 Sterling. The Exchange varys from 178 to 186 Currency for £100 Sterling. The present Freight to Hamburg is £5 Sterling per ton for Logwood, ld Sterling per pound for Coffee, & 2s Sterling for a Spanish Hyde. The sale of A St. Domingo Ship comes on tomorrow when you shall be advised how Indigoe sells. We have begun the purchase of your order for £500 Sterling of Martinico or St. Domingo Coffee at 71/2d to 81/4 per pound for Martinico Coffee & expects to compleat on them terms in a few days which will be very considerable under your limitts. At present the price of Prize sugar is far above your limitts. Should it come to the price, which we dont expect, you may depend your order shall be duely observed. In first Vessel for Hamburg, after we have compleated your order for the Coffee, shall ship it. Logwood for the most part is to be bought here so as to answer in London but very seldom, but it will bring a good Proff it at Hamburg or Holland. The present price is £11 per ton. Our trade to the Bay of Hondoras is very great which makes this a constant Market for it. Spanish Hydes sells here from 41/2 to 6d per pound. Some of the French Prize Ships that are too large for the trade of this place are sold very reasonably. We shall at all times observe your commands punctualy. G&C [P.S.] Mr. Thomas Delaval had a Parcell of goods of ours before those we shiped by Castleton which was consigned to you also. He furnished us agreeable sales of them, & he shall do what business we have done in Hamburg or can get him. per the Packet |
