Dear Cousin Jane,
we received a letter from you last summer which I believe has never has been [sic] answered. I know it was not intended for me because I never had any corispondence with our cousin William [.] it was intended for another cousin of the same name who had some corispondence with William. the letter came into my hands first and as the information you wanted was of considerable importance I did not like to take the responcibility of answering it. the other Joseph McArthur has moved away from this place Near Meadville about 20 miles distance[.] I handed him the letter the first time he came to our place after I received it, and he said he would answer it as soon as he got home. I was at his house a few days ago and asked him if he had got any word from you. He said no that he had not answered your letter that he had lost your address and seemed very much hurt to think it had been neglected so long [.] I have since seen Marshel Scott and got your address and will send it to him [.] however I can give you his opinion as well as several other of your friends in this cuntery on the question whether it woud be bst [sic] to come to America or stay in Ireland, they all say that I have hered say anything on the subject that if the question was only for yourself that you had better stay where you are but they think under the circu[m]stances, taking your family into consideration as they are it would be better for you to come to America [.] for my part I think it would be decidedly better to come, this is only my opinion from what information I can get from people that came frome there [.] if you still think of comeing write as soon as you receve this and I will give you any
information you want [.] if you would wish to buy a Farm there is one of the best in this part
of the cuntery of 180 Acres lying or Joyning mine for sale. we had heared of the death of our
Cousin [.] Write as soon as you receive this we will be glad to here from you [.] Cousin
Joseph will write to you soon if he has not already [.] if you write to him Direct Meadville
Crawf County, Pa, to me Joseph McArthur 2nd South Shenango Crawford Co, Pa. My
Fathers name was John McArthur perhaps there is some Aged people that knew him [.] the other is the only son of Andrew McArthur. Give my respects to the rest of your family I donot
remember there names now but I believe I have a namesake among them[.]

Write for certin when you receve this Jane McArthur
