Transcript | Friendsville 17th 8 mo 1823 William had visited them & Thos missed him very much. John did not return till 7 weeks later; he had been with friends in Phila. They hope to sell the farm. Thos has been kicked by an ox just above the knee & is confined to his chair. Abraham Bell has bought a fine farm on Long Island265, upwards of 200 acres, for 27,500 dollars: "he has been offered $5000 for the crops on it this season". John has conceived a great dislike to Cousin Polly and Phebe: the former spread a report that jno was going to be married to Phebe — she even told Constance Ailment. Moyallon was sold a few weeks ago for $2500 & the premises in town for $800 - very low prices indeed — H. Barrington did go to Kingston. Since that Mgt has been there — Mrs King has interested herself so much on his account that he has refused to go to both houses and has "affronted both families". In a letter from Hulda is mentioned the marriage of Jno Bell's daughter Hannah to Jno half-brother to Thos Wakefield, who lived with the Pims in Dublin. Hulda went after the wedding to the Causeway with them. Joshua Fayle of Redford has come one to New York. He has heard from J.H. Beale - Ireland exported more grain to England alone last year than ever the United States did to the whole world in any one year - this includes flour. Mentions John Ailment. Sam Barrington thinking of leaving Friendsville: his son is gone Co New York. There have been rows among Friends in New York and Philadelphia about Elias Hicks, the greater number supporting him. Some of the Society dont know what they profess. "My old friend and bedfellow Maria does not send me a single message—." Thy truly affectionate cousin Thos.
