Transcript | To: Charles Connor 6 Trinity Street Belfast Ireland From: 1925 Prospect Ave [Avenue?] Bronx March 18 - 07 [1907?] Dear Charley Received yours Ok. was beginnning to think you were married, as it seems to be the fashion over there, I thought something like that would happen to Joe Leat. (As they [the?] fox runs far but caught at last) & I think the best thing for him to do is content himself with Mrs in Belfast. As regards maybe sending him his ticket I dont think it very manly of him to leave his wife for its not all sun shine over here if he is working I would advice [advise?] him to stop there. I will tell you the truth about America. they [the?] people here has to be very saving with their money to get along for the people in all Foreign Countries hear such reports that the [they?] get USA on the Brain. & when ever the [they?] arrive here the [they?] cant get the money to bring him home again so the [they?] have to remain here. Any how if a fellow went home again & told them that this country was rotten they [the?] folks wouldnt beleive [believe?] him they would say to themselves that fellow was Lazy & didnt want to work. I say Charley there are thousands of people coming here every day the [they?] all make their home either in New York. Phila [Philadelphia?] & Chicago that the [they?] work for next to nothing and of course the bosses take advantage of these people. the building trade in this City is worse than Belfast the last night I was down at society. 1700 plumbers out of work so you can have an Idea of the others, I struck it pretty lucky. I was only out of work one week sinse [since?] I came back. & my advice if a fellow [is?] working to stay home but of Course Charley dont say anything to Joe about this to discourage him I feel sorry for him so I hope you will keep. any [away?] from the girls as they are a nuisance I had to laugh when you said you belong to AOH [Ancient Order of Hibernians?] I seen a few members for Ireland thought. the order would. see him alright. when the [they?] arrived here, they [the?] division would want 5$ [5 dollars?] for Initiation perhaps the fellow wouldnt have 5 cents. They had a great parade..on 16th March saturday [Saturday?] on account of 17th being Sunday they certainly were a credit..I was surprised to hear of McCrudden being on the R.I.C. [Royal Irish Constabulary?] of course that will suit him he can carry on some of his mean dirty tricks as usual. I am sending you the paper to see the way the [they?] decorate the front pages. I had a letter from Jennie [O'Mylie ?] a week ago saying she hasnt seen you in a long time so dont be so long in writting [writing?] If you dont prepare for a fight next time so give my regards to all the boys PS How is that Exhibition in Dublin getting along so I draw to a Close give my regards to all home. I remain Your old chum Charly |
