| Transcript | Mount Melleray April 13th, 1863 My dear Mother, Brothers, and Sisters, I am now going to relate to you all my feelings since I joined the Community. Well, I must say that up to this I cannot complain of anything with regard to the rules or regulations but the change of rising. We must all arise at two o' clock on weekdays, and at one on Sundays and holy days, which comes very heavy on me, for the first time at all events, but I hope ‘ere long I'll be as well able to disregard it as any of the brothers. Dear Mother, I hope you won't be fretting after me when I'm away from you now, or feel a great disappointment for me. I know I'm a great loss to you and myself, but however don't fret, and if you promise me you won't, I'll be as happy as any one could be, and I hope also you won't forget praying for me at all times that I may persevere to the end and obey my Superiors with Religious Punctuality and submission which is the only point is to be studied in such a place as this, and may God and his infinite mercy hear your prayers. During the summer season we'll get two meals every day. There is no fear but we get food enough and then all that is to be done is to save our souls and who ought to fret for the world then. Let me know how you're going on since I left you or have you all the potatoes sowed yet or the cabbage or how you managed with Edward Byrne. I hope you have everything regulated properly. Mind everything well and stay together as long as you can. Let me know where are they working now or is the trade any better than it was this time back. Keep Willy working in my place if you can for it's very good no matter where he'll go. Let Catherine write to me the next time and let me know is she going to do what she was saying. Let the Reverend Father Morris know that I return him infinite thanks for his kindness to me to send with me so beautiful and praiseworthy a character. May God bless him and reward him which will be my constant prayer. Let Miss Ryan in the Convent [?] know I was speaking to Brother David. He is well.
