Transcript | Sackville, July 20th1878 Dear Brother, I promised James to write in regard to his coming to Sackville at the beginning of the School year, but I have been so busy with various matters that I have neglected this one too long. We have only this week moved into our new abode and now we know just how we will be situated for room. If James should prefer to board with us I think we can assign him a comfortable room and necessary appliances. My design is to give him all the advantages for study possible and at as low a cost as practicable. The expenses in the Academy are for Board &c $135 for the School year of 39 Weeks, and $4.50 for each study he takes – say in all for studies $18 for the year. Then his books, papers &c. would probably come to about $15 or $20 more. In all about $160 or $170 for the year. I am willing to reduce this expense by ⅓, that is, his bills shall be made out just as they would be if he boarded at the Academy and I will take off ⅓ of the total Amt. This I think would meet actual cost, and that is all I want. If it had not been that my unfortunate losses by speculations have made it necessary for me to try and lay up something for my family. I would not propose to charge him anything for Board. I expect to go to St. John on Wednesday afternoon next and will be glad to see you if you are in the city on Thursday. We want to know as soon as possible whether James had made up his mind to come, and whether if he come he wishes to board with us, as we will have to make some changes in the rooms. Trusting that you and your family are in good health. Your brother James. |
