| Transcript | John Morton, Philadelphia, to Thomas Greer, Dungannon, County Tyrone, 4 April 1769 Philada 4 mo. 4 1769 Affectionate Cousin Our last was (via Belfast) dated 2mo 25 Inclosing Acco<unt> Sales of the last parcel of Linens we had from thee, since which have none of thy Favours; inclose thee James Coopers Draft on John Strettle Merch in London for £87 Stg we now Exchange at 60 C in Curr<enc>y £139.4. which note accordingly— The Merchants & Traders of this City have mutually covenanted & agreed with each other not to import any Goods from Great Britain untill the British parliament repeals some late Unconstitutional Revenue acts except such as were Shipp’d before the first of this Month; so that what Linens thou sends us, must come immediately from Ireland & by no Means go to England to recover the Bounty, except thou shou’d learn that the parliament had repeal’d the Act for laying a Duty on paper glass &c; it’s our Opinion they’ll not be Suddenly repeal’d; therefore wou’d submit to thy Judgment whether it wou’d be better to stop sending any more Linens for some Time, or send them immediately from Ireland, which wou’d deprive us of the Bounty, & consequently lessen our Proffits considerably; what is become of the parcel of Linens thou wrote us was sent to L’pool long since, its a Mistery to us what can detain them; we are very hearty in the good Cause of Liberty & hope it will have the desired Effect of for ever deterring a corrupt Ministry from encroaching on the Rights & Priviledges of a free people: our Family is well with Love to all Friends We remain thy affectionate Cousins Saml & Jno Morton PS.
