Transcript | [Letter 2] [Page 1] Castledamph Jan 1908 Dear Brother Just a few lines for the present, Saw in the free Press yesterday an account that you had met with an accident hope it is not Serious. We are anxiously waiting for a letter thought we would have got one today but none likely one tomorrow. John C. [Charles?] has got home got here Saturday night before Xmas He is not very much changed unless talking and dresses better than formerly [Page 2] He is somewhat fatter than he used to be. He was’nt very well for more than a week after he came had a headache all the time. I suppose he would have felt better had he come in a slower boat I think he wont go in one like her for a while again. He has been hunting a few days. He went to Gortin yesterday & is to return today again. Lizzie is home now, she came over Saturday evg [evening?] & Maggie came Sunday & both stopped until Yesterday morning so John went over with them Jamey Ballantine R.I.C. [Royal Irish Constabulary?] is coming [Page 3] home today for a week only so that is why John can’t stay in Gortin, they expect to have a great [time?] hunting. This is Jamey’s first time home. Today it is raining, we had fine frosty [cold?] here last week but it has thawed now it is miserable damp weather. In looking through the envelope I got a letter addressed to you [in Nov?] but had forgotten to post it. The most particular news that was in it was that Willie Houston’s wife (Constall) is dead and left six of a family, died of consumption. John Houston took one of the children and Jane one and Mary Ann one so that he has only the three eldest at home. He has Davies girl hired this [term?] [Page 4] Archie McClelland has bought a farm at £400 near Fintona. He is going to live on it in the Spring and his better half is coming over from New York. She is a native of Ireland, He is still in the Glenn [Glen?] doesn’t be out very much does the cooking and all for Andy. I think he still drinks for a good deal. Archie McCullagh is the only one from here that attends the Agricultural class, it would take quite a bit of time from the farmers every Monday & Tuesdays John C [Charles?] went to see Tillie before he left he says she has got thin and old looking She has got another young son two days after john was there.
