Transcript | [Letter 2] Castledamph 2/2/98 Plumbridge [Tialhot?] Dear Cousin In answer to your loving letter which I was very pleased to receive Dear cousin In an [------?] yours I am very sorry to hear of Uncle I received the [----?] day and cousin William being so if [Gilfillan?] ill but hope it is nothing serious [----------------?] and hope they will [------?] Castledamph Castledamph time you [----------?] few lines [Londonderry?] {--------?] James Smyth Dear Cousin we have Castledamph Derry [J Gilfillan?] Castledamph [--?] Mr John Jame May 13 Mr John James [page 2] from Pindi back to Tialhot which is a good job our two squadrons as [sic] come down from the frontier there were eighteen of the two squadrons died. Dear Aunt I suppose Bob and Jack never got over to see you all at Christmas as Bella says in her last letter I as [sic] only wish I could get over every year for too [sic] see you I would be pleased but I hope to see all my friends again as we parted. Dear Aunt I received a letter from little Maggie in Gortin last week also a nice little card also a Bible and letter from Uncle John and he gives me very good advice to look after myself. Dear Aunt this is a nice station we are in now I hope they [page 3] they keep us here but I fear they wont there is a rumour about us going back to Pashawar two squadrons of the fourth Dragoons have gone back again next month I cannot say much about what is going on it [sic] up there I have not seen any fellows coming down from the frontier Dear Aunt I wrote to Cousin James a fortnight after I landed in [Pindi?] but received no answer as yet I was thinking he must have been ill but I think he must not have got it I would like to hear from him very much but I will write to him next post and I and my chum are getting our Photos taken on Thursday [page 4] So I will send him one as soon as I get them & also one to Tilda Gilki [Gilkinson?] Dear Aunt I had a letter from home last week they are all well.
